Version 4 is now free - an updated release - sagelight - 11-19-2019 05:29 AM I just re-released version 4 (4.4h) as a free version, with the idea that people can donate what they think it is worth to them, and to fund more updates and future development. I've actually always wanted to give Sagelight away for free, but a free model was too risky, since once you give it away for free, you can't change your mind. It makes sense to give it away for free now, since its a few years old. It's still pretty powerful, but there is no sense selling Sagelight again until I get version 5 out. If the free model actually works, I can look at giving version 5 away for free, or at least some part of it (going back to a standard vs. pro model again, now that it is much more viable with the ui re-design in version 5). Updated Version -- Bug fixes and minor changes. The current free release is the same version as the last version (4.4h, I believe), but with the following changes: 1. Various bug fixes. There was a bug where the numbers on the sliders moved off the screen. This has been fixed, and there has been various fixes as I've traced down the bugs. 2. Functions removed. The Pro Quick Edit Mode, Pro Balance, and a couple other functions have been removed. I don't think they are relevant any longer. Let me know if you miss any of them. 3. Changed Defaults. The defaults on the HDR and other functions have been changed. I made them less pronounced, which I think makes them better. The HDR functions are powerful, and I think defaults were making the images look too augmented, where lower settings show how they can really help your image. 4. Donation Button. There's also a donation button in the lower right-hand corner. I tried to make it so it didn't look gaudy. Let me know about that. I really hope this free version works out. Like I said, I've always wanted to give it away for free, and this is a good way to test it out. The donations will also fund the completion of Version 5, and like I said on the website, for anyone who donates, I will make sure gets at least that amount (up to the price of Version 5) back if Version 5 goes back to a pricing model. RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release - sagelight - 11-20-2019 07:01 AM Thanks! I fixed it, and thanks in advance. Rob RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release - gray - 12-02-2019 05:22 PM Hi Rob - welcome back! Here's an error that you should be aware of, as SL is shown as compatible with all versions of Windows from 2000 on. I downloaded and tried installing the updated SL 4 on a Windows XP SP3 32-bit box (believe it), which still has the last v 4 installed on it. Trying to run install_sagelight.exe gives an "install_sagelight.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error. This probably means the new install program is compiled for Windows versions later than XP. The last v. 4 install worked flawlessly. Thanks RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release - sagelight - 12-05-2019 08:33 AM gray: Yes! I just realized I did create it so that it is only compatible with Windows 10. I will work to see how I can fix that. I don't have any XP computers around to test on, and, and I had to set the Windows Version Numbers to Windows 10 just to compile. I will see if I can get an XP computer, but that may take a while. Alternatively, I can put back all of the reg information so that last version can register, but it won't update as that would currently require Windows 10. I will be putting back the reg information and last version at some point in the next few weeks. I will also be doing bug fixes that I will be posting later today and as often as possible. There is a bug fix for loading RAW files that I will address later today. Rob RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release - gray - 12-11-2019 07:18 PM Thanks Rob. I appreciate your feedback very much. RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release - treefairy - 12-17-2019 10:15 AM Rob, I still have a working XP desktop if you need a tester. Also, the account confirmation process is working now (obviously!). Treefairy (aka Jill) (12-05-2019 08:33 AM)sagelight Wrote: gray: Yes! Also, the account confirmation process is working now (obviously!). Treefairy (aka Jill) Great! I might take you up on that in a week or two! I will recompile it with the XP windows versions and see if I can get that working. Right now, it doesn't want to compile unless I set it to Windows 10. Thanks for letting know about the account info -- I thought I was going to have to re-upload that. I can post the current registration version that does work on Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Rob RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release - bj73au - 12-23-2019 08:14 PM Hi Rob, someone pointed out to me that the suggested donation for v5 is a little inconsistent on a couple of your pages. http://www.sagelighteditor.com/donate.html Quote:Get Version 5 free. If there are enough donations, I can give version 5 away for free. If you donate $10 or more, keep your information and you get Version 5 for free, even if it goes back to a regular purchase (for lesser amounts, also keep your information for a discount if I can't make version 5 free) https://sagelighteditor.com/purchase3.html Quote:Get Version 5 free. Good to have you back, great program, I don't even use 5% of what it can do. Ha... Yes... I will change that. I guess I'll have to decide which one I like better. I haven't released it too publicly yet, but will be throwing it out on the freeware boards soon. The main thing is that I want to get Version 5 going as soon as I can. I'm thinking of putting out what I have now as a version 4.5, but not for free, so the idea is that anyone who donates more than $10, I'd give it away for free as a way of thanking them, since donations are going to be the main support for development of the next version. The idea there is to get Version 4 out to more people that wouldn't have been exposed to it, so hopefully some of the features it has will become more well known. With the 5% that you use of Sagelight... That's why I'm doing more videos of various features, to show what it can do -- even if you use another primary editor, there are many Sagelight features that you can use for specific things, like the HDR, and other things I am showing in the latest videos. Much of Sagelight is meant to have very specific purposes, so some of it would only be used by just a few people -- for example, who really needs an RGB channel mixer? Hardly anyone! But, when that function is useful, it is very useful! Same with the Unsharp Mask, Median Filter, Bokeh, High pass filter, etc. etc. The other part of it for me, too, is that the UI in Sagelight 4 obscures a lot of what Sagelight can do in a powerful but more general manner. I've become very fond of the new UI, which really opens up so much in Sagelight with its new design, as well as making sense of the other functions that act as external filters (Bokeh, HDR, Unsharp Mask, etc.). I'm really wanting to get that out as soon as I can, since its the basis for a lot of things I intend to add, and I can start to add them one at a time once I get that part done. |
