The use case for this is, for example, when creating a Facebook header image that is supposed to be in some oddball aspect ratio, e.g. 1.915.

... oh, and while I'm at it (currently working on an image), two more things...

1. When cropping and you have an exact pixel requirement, I don't see a way to get that exact pixel requirement, as there seems to be something preventing you from typing in the exact number of pixels in the textboxes (all you can do is get close to the number you want by resizing the cropping rectangle, and then later use some other application like IrfanView to re-crop it to the exact dimensions).

2. When saving an image, there is .BMP for saving lossless 8-bit images, but it would be nice to also have .PNG for that (or just have .PNG, as I think more applications these days accept .PNG than .BMP)

Let me look into the cropping. I've always felt it was too basic in Sagelight, and maybe that's something I can look into. I am looking into adding simple features to Sagelight while I try to get it going again, and this might be a good place.

I will look into that and get back to you on that.

With the PNG -- yes, I agree, Sagelight needs to support that, which would be another small-level thing I can look at doing (it's been an outstanding issue for a while).
