RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release
Quote:The other part of it for me, too, is that the UI in Sagelight 4 obscures a lot of what Sagelight can do in a powerful but more general manner. I've become very fond of the new UI, which really opens up so much in Sagelight with its new design, as well as making sense of the other functions that act as external filters (Bokeh, HDR, Unsharp Mask, etc.). I'm really wanting to get that out as soon as I can, since its the basis for a lot of things I intend to add, and I can start to add them one at a time once I get that part done. Rob, Just before you left to take care of your father you posted an image of the new GUI and I for one have been waiting for this literally for years ! I think this would be a great idea. |

RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release
Wow, surprised to see everything back! I guess I must be one of the few who have been using Sagelight all these years, and didn't move onto anything else.
I just found out about this as I was setting up a new PC with Windows 10, and was wondering how I was going to get Sagelight working on it. The new free version solved that problem! I must say though that I'm already missing the Pro (Kayak) mode in the free version, as I usually go back to that as my last step and tweak the gamma, blackpoint, and whitepoint. Although I see that if I start with a raw file, it still opens in Kayak, and I can stay in this as long as I don't go to the Quick Edit mode (at which point I cannot return to Kayak). Also, if you're going to continue to offer gamma adjustments (which I hope you do, somewhere), note that you cannot go from 1.0 to 0.99... it jumps straight to 0.96. Also looking forward to a version that can read the raw files from my Fujifilm X-T100, which 4.4h cannot do (instead I first convert to DNG, which 4.4h can read). Marc |

Thanks for the vote on that. I am really wanting to do it, and I think I should so I can get it out faster. Like I said, I have been really getting use to it and seeing how the current UI obscures some of the best features. I think I will go ahead and start the work on that, especially since the prototype is mostly done. Plus, once I get going with it, I can probably release a version that updates the RAW files as well (I knew this would be an issue and want to handle it as soon as I can). Rob |

I am glad you mentioned this. I took it out because I felt it was way too confusing for a free version. But, I was playing with it with a RAW file, and I can see why I put it there in the first place: it provides some very clean functionality that can be used for RAW files and some 'canonical' functionality such as LAB mode, basic curves, etc. All the good foundation functions everything is built on, and is more ala Photoshop. The main idea was to have the Kayak mode as a pre-step for the RAW (more formally), but it would maybe it would be better to just keep it, but make it more clear what it is about. I designed it in the days when I was thinking about splitting the editor into two different versions, but that never happened. RE: Version 4 is now free - an updated release
Rob,
I'm sure many of us want and need to register our current paid licenses due to failed hard drives or the purchasing of replacement computers, etc. Unfortunately, this is impossible without bringing the licensing server back online. Is this doable? And I second the suggestion to continue offering gamma adjustments and Kayak as per the previous v.4 program. Thanks very much. |

Also, the previous version doesn't seem to work well with Windows 10, as the text in the user interface gets clipped. This is fixed in the free version. |

Kayak does work in the now-free version, but you can't switch to QuickEdit and back. You need to start out in Kayak and stay in Kayak. Probably not how he intended the software to be used, but that's how I'm using it. |

Ha, yes, I did disappear again. But, in usual style, I came back with some things... The Kayak mode was meant to be a mode more for classic, more pure algorithms working with the color. It definitely gives you more control, especially in the initial working with RAW files (I will be looking into updating those as soon as I can, now that I have a generic platform to work with). Rob |
